1. Every Instagram post needs at least 20 to 30 hashtags.

Note: you can pop the hashtag in your post or in the comments; it’s up to you as either way works.

2. Use a mix of branded, local, trending and content related/ topical hashtags.

Why use so many hashtags and mix them up? First and foremost… you want to look like you know what you’re doing and being seen in the right places… ya feel me! But seriously, the more depth and robust your tagging game is the wider your reach will be to potential engagement. Note: grouping and saving your hashtags by topic, industry or whatever suits can help save time when posting—try not to stray from your content idea though. This is an important one because you don’t want to be Shadowban by Instagram. That means your hashtags become ‘undiscoverable’ and your content will only show on your follower’s feeds, reducing your reach and exposure.
 

4. Always research, stay abreast of trends and know what your competitors are doing.

This one should be a no brainer… social is fast moving and you need to keep up or better yet set the trends yourself. More to the point, you need to know what is popular for your audience and you are only going to find that out by researching.
 

5. Track your hashtag results.

Data-driven campaigns makes for the best results! You need to know how your hashtags are doing as well as what’s working and what’s not. Try using Hootsuite to track your statistics.
