6 hashtag tricks we swear by to boost your Instagram game

July 18, 2018

So you’ve refined and chiseled your content into a masterpiece but it’s just not getting the notice on social you expected?
Don’t panic, we are here to help! And just a little tip, even though most of us know of the power social has on spreading your message we often don’t know how to harness it.
With that said… if you’re not putting your content in the right places it’s just not going to get the attention it deserves. Luckily, such social channels as Instagram have made accessing content 100 times easier with the use of hashtags. They are super integral to Instagram because they allow for content with the same hashtags to be grouped together and discoverable by your audience.
By putting your content in as many relevant groups as possible, your chances of it being noticed by your audience is greater. In turn, generating brand awareness and building your business engagement.

Here are 6 hashtag tricks we swear by to get your social engagement buzzing:

1. Every Instagram post needs at least 20 to 30 hashtags.

Note: you can pop the hashtag in your post or in the comments; it’s up to you as either way works.

2. Use a mix of branded, local, trending and content related/ topical hashtags.

Why use so many hashtags and mix them up? First and foremost… you want to look like you know what you’re doing and being seen in the right places… ya feel me! But seriously, the more depth and robust your tagging game is the wider your reach will be to potential engagement. Additionally, establishing your own branded hashtags encourages user-generated content campaigns, initiatives and contests—upping your Instagame to full throttle. On that note, users can now follow their favourite hashtags which means they won’t have to go looking for you.
Not sure where to start? Try using generic hashtags like #photooftheday #love #picoftheday #potd #happy #btb #beautiful #business #girlboss #food #friends #fashion and playing with branded hashtage like #exploreBrisbane #canberralife #ohmyexpereince

3. Have 3 to 4 sets of different hashtags that you can rotate.

Note: grouping and saving your hashtags by topic, industry or whatever suits can help save time when posting—try not to stray from your content idea though. This is an important one because you don’t want to be Shadowban by Instagram. That means your hashtags become ‘undiscoverable’ and your content will only show on your follower’s feeds, reducing your reach and exposure.

4. Always research, stay abreast of trends and know what your competitors are doing.

This one should be a no brainer… social is fast moving and you need to keep up or better yet set the trends yourself. More to the point, you need to know what is popular for your audience and you are only going to find that out by researching.

5. Track your hashtag results.

Data-driven campaigns makes for the best results! You need to know how your hashtags are doing as well as what’s working and what’s not. Try using Hootsuite to track your statistics.

6. Use hashtags in your Instagram story.

This is yet another way your content can reach new audiences and stories also show up in hashtag searches.
Hand on heart, we swear by these tricks to give your brand and content the exposure it deserves! Before we leave you to your own devices here is one more trick you really should consider.
Plan your strategy. That means set your goals, nut out your tactics and make room for evaluation.
