How to recharge your marketing batteries

Marketing

Is there something in the air? Feeling like you’ve lost your marketing sparkle? Fear not! This is temporary and your love for marketing will return. Here are six steps to take home for a test run. Batteries not included.

Step 1 – Identify your productive hours

Being the amazingly complex humans we are means we are not “on” all day everyday. Think about the time of day or week where your brain is at its peak. It’s not the same for everyone but I get stuck into my big projects first up in the morning before my brain
gets fatigued. This is the time to do your planning and big picture thinking.

Step 2 – Same wall, different day

Remove yourself from your usual work environment. This is especially important when it comes to igniting your creativity. Nothing is less stimulating then staring at the same white wall day in day out. Go to a coffee shop, sit by the water or check out your local coworking space.

Step 3 – Don’t overdo your inspiration

Unsubscribe to any emails you’re not getting any value out of. Unwanted emails just clog your brain with redundant words. Research some fresh, fun newsletters to get a new perspective. Better yet, change it up by listening to a podcast or webinar. Besides you can always resubscribe later if you want.

Step 4 – Get your priorities in order

I always say a blessing and curse of digital marketing is the endless opportunities we have. Why a blessing? A modest budget can expose your brand to the world, YAY! Why a curse? Because a marketers job is never done, phew it gets exhausting. SO… you can’t do it all. Pick a few key projects that will make a difference to your business goals. Chasing those Instagram likes feels great, but does it impact your bottom line as much as setting up a Facebook remarketing campaign?

Step 5 – Swallow the frog

I’m a sucker for a good motivational quote and this one speaks to me because procrastination is a killer. Don’t feel like you need to tackle the whole project at once. Make a small start to get the ball rolling. That might be simply setting up your project folder and laying out a framework to work on later. What are you waiting for?

Step 6 – Do a happy dance

Don’t rely on external gratification, be your own cheerleader. Be proud of what you’ve achieved. Give yourself a reward. Take a break. Allow your mind to process, grow and learn for the next exciting marketing challenge!
