The 411: January Updates You Might Have Missed – 3-Minute IG Reels + more

Digital Updates

February 3, 2025

POST WRITTEN BY:

Oh, hey there! It’s 2025 and we’re SO back with the hot goss on all the digital updates that caught our team’s eye in January. 3-minute Reels have finally landed on Instagram, meaning longer-form content on the platform is officially in. Pinterest has just dropped their trend predictions for 2025, and TikTok’s still hanging around in the US… for now. As you can probably guess, there’s a lot to unpack here, so let’s dive right in! Shall we?

What’s new with Meta?

Meta Announces New Personalisation Elements for Their AI Tool

Meta’s looking to enhance its AI assistant with new memory features, giving it more capacity to recall and refine its responses based on your personal preferences. Their AI tool will be drawing on your Facebook and Instagram activity to get to know you better, which, let’s be honest, is a little like scrolling through your ex’s feed… eek!

However, Meta says you can always hit the reset button if things get too familiar. They’re clearly serious about this, pouring billions into AI data centres to power these developments. Nonetheless, prepare yourself for a more personalised AI experience in-app!

Key features:

  • Meta AI is designed to remember details from your 1:1 conversations on WhatsApp and Messenger to provide more relevant responses.
  • These personalisation features will only work in 1:1 conversations, not group chats.
  • You will be able to delete Meta AI’s memory of your conversations.

This update could potentially mean we’ll soon see more effective interactions with potential customers using Meta’s AI tool, potentially leading to stronger relationships and increased sales — but we’ll have to wait and see! 👀

What’s new with Instagram?

Instagram Has (Finally) Expanded Reels Length to 3 Minutes

Aligning with competitors like TikTok and YouTube, Instagram has now introduced longer Reels to their platform. Since introducing this update, there has even been talks of 10-minute Reels being tested with some accounts — clearly depicting a shift towards longer-form content on the platform. This comes as no surprise, as Instagram has been making a flurry of moves that are seemingly trying to align with presenting themselves as the best alternative for users.

Key Features:

While we’re excited for this update, we’re more excited that the confusion surrounding whether or not longer-form content should be shared on Instagram has (seemingly) been put to rest. If you remember, Instagram previously claimed that longer reels seemingly hurt content’s performance — this should no longer be the case!
