Google cracks down on consumer finance and Instagram rolls out two new features + more

Digital Updates

December 4, 2023

POST WRITTEN BY:

It looks like privacy and user experience is at the forefront of all of the major tech apps for 2024. With Google cracking down on consumer finance, Instagram rolling out posting to close friends, LinkedIn introducing more ways to track data and more. With how quickly they’re all rolling out updates, we can’t wait to see what’s to come for 2024!

Instagram rolls out two anticipated new features

Instagram recently made announcements about a whole heap of new tests and features coming soon. And it looks like these new features from Instagram have finally rolled out on our account this week. Including “Get Orders” and posting to “Close Friends”.

The “Get Orders” feature is a little clunky, because it allows customers to click on a button on your post and send an order request. Which might be less than effective if you have bulk orders or a refined system you use to monitor and process inventory. But if you have a once off item it could be good for a hot standalone offer!

Posting to “Close Friends” has been in the works for a little while and could be a great way to communicate with current or past clients, launch waitlists or even biz besties! We can’t wait to see how businesses start using this feature.

Instagram testing “link highlights”

This “Link Highlight” test has been spotted in the wild. However how it works, nobody seems to know. We’ll report back if we get to try it out. We know that the Head of Instagram Adam Mosseri has come out publicly a number of times stating links in captions will never be a priority for Instagram (stop trying to make links in caption happen). So maybe this is their happy medium? Apparently it’s just linking to events so far. So we’ll see if it comes to light!

Pinterest introduces Direct links in time for silly season campaigns

Pinterest introduces Direct links in time for silly season campaigns. Helping businesses drive traffic and conversions more efficiently than ever.

This feature has been expanded to include more objectives and formats. Pinterest recognises that people use the app to research products and brands, so it wants to give you more opportunities for your audience to take action in the moment.

This new feature reduces the amount of clicks your audience needs to take to see your product (and shop!)

LinkedIn has dropped new advertiser audience capabilities.

As marketers are finding it more and more difficult to access data like we used to with more privacy restrictions coming into place, LinkedIn have dropped some hot new features to reach your audience more effectively. Including:

  • Conversions API (CAPI)
  • Website Actions
  • Document Ad enhancements

LinkedIn has introduced new Conversions API (CAPI) to allow advertisers to choose between direct API integration and partner integration, allowing flexibility for different situations. So now advertisers can connect both your online and offline data to LinkedIn! Love that full funnel transparency.

Website Actions has been introduced to help eliminate missed or inaccurately-counted conversions for ad campaigns. It simplifies the journey by allowing advertisers to measure and retarget button clicks on your website without all the complicated installation steps.

Document Ads have had a bit of a glow up, with the below upgrades, according to LinkedIn:

  1. Retargeting now allows you to engage with customers who have previously interacted with Document Ads, guiding them down the funnel with precision.
  2. Embrace new objectives like website visits and website conversions to drive actions on your landing pages, enhancing your campaign’s effectiveness.
  3. You can also opt for LAN distribution to unlock increased delivery and cost-efficiency.

Google is cracking down on consumer finance

As of February 2024, Google will be cracking down on consumer finance with new guidelines in its Personalised ads policy.

The policy states “In the United States and Canada, the following sensitive interest categories cannot be targeted to audiences based on gender, age, parental status, marital status, or ZIP code.”

Offers relating to credit or products or services related to credit lending, banking products and services, or certain financial planning and management services will be affected. Violations of this policy will not lead to immediate account suspension without prior warning. A warning will be issued, at least seven days, prior to any suspension of your account.
