What’s new with Google?
Google Announces New Core Algorithm Update for Search
Google has just dropped the deets on a new core algorithm update for its search platform, aiming to reduce spam and enhance result quality. This update targets low-quality content, focusing on eliminating unhelpful, unoriginal, or search-engine-focused webpages that clutter up our search results. Google expects a 40% reduction in such content in search results, potentially reshaping what users see in SERPs. Plus, Google is strengthening policies against mass-content generation via AI and cracking down on low-quality third-party content posted for ranking purposes on high-quality sites.
So what does this mean for biz owners? Well now’s the time to review your website content and give it a little refresh to make sure you’re playing by Google’s guidelines.

What’s new with TikTok?
TikTok’s Long Form Content is Here to Stay
TikTok has announced that its Creator Rewards Program, will now require videos longer than one minute for monetisation. This shift reflects the platform’s desire for creators to flex their creativity and dive deep into their content. The program will calculate payouts based on factors like originality, play duration, search value and audience engagement, aiming to offer higher payouts compared to the previous creator fund. Additionally, TikTok is expanding access to premium live streaming features, allowing live streaming creators to charge fans for exclusive content and benefits.
👀 Tests spotted on TikTok this week:
- TikTok is testing a new iOS widget for creating stories, available only for Home Screen widgets. This move aligns with the broader trend in social media platforms towards simplifying user interactions and integrating features that promote seamless engagement.
