Digital Updates

August 26, 2024

POST WRITTEN BY:

Meta now lets you use promo codes in your Lead Forms as the perfect way to promote engagement, and Instagram allows you to add a theme tune to your profile! There are so many goodies in this week’s dose of digital updates so make sure you don’t miss a thing!

What’s new with Meta?

Add Promo Codes to your Lead Forms

Meta has recently introduced a new feature called “Redeem Promo Code” for lead forms. This feature allows you to provide a promo code to leads after they complete your form. You can even customize the URL where the code can be redeemed and the call to action. This feature can be used to offer discounts or other incentives to leads in exchange for their contact information.

Key features:

  • How?: After you choose the “Redeem Promo Code” Lead Form option, you can provide the unique URL where your offer can be redeemed, and the promo code they can use. You can even make a customised Call To Action for the button e.g. “Get my discount”.

Recommendations for Business Owners: This new feature opens up a world of possibilities! You could offer a discount as a thank-you for signing up, or surprise people with a special code after they subscribe. There have been a lot of great updates to instant forms lately, and this one is definitely worth trying out.

📔 Other noteworthy updates from Meta this week:

  • Meta has added a new feature that allows users to cross-post content from Facebook and Instagram to Threads. While this can save time, it’s important to note that each platform has different user behaviours and engagement patterns. Cross-posting may not be the most effective strategy for reaching your target audience on all three platforms. It’s recommended to create unique content for each platform to optimize engagement.
  • Meta announces the rollout of a new feature called “Incremental Conversions”. This feature is designed to help businesses measure the effectiveness of their ads by identifying conversions that would not have happened without seeing the ad. Meta claims that advertisers who have tested this feature have seen an average improvement of more than 20% in incremental conversions. While the exact details of how this feature works are still unclear, it could be a valuable tool for advertisers looking to optimize their campaigns.

What’s new with Instagram?

Add A Theme Song to your Profile

You can now express yourself by adding a song to your Instagram profile! The song will stay on your profile until you swap or remove the song, it’s like your own personal theme tune.

How do I do it?

From your profile you can select “Edit profile” and then search for your favourite song or browse the “For You” section. After selecting the song, you can scroll through and choose the 30-second clip that you’d like on your profile.

Our take: We think this update is a cute little edition that’s reminiscent of the MySpace days! If you have a song that you think aligns with your brand identity, you could definitely try this one out!

📔 Other noteworthy updates from Instagram this week:

  • Instagram has introduced a new feature that allows users to tag Channels when uploading a post. This makes it easier for Channel owners to share their latest updates directly to their channel feed. Channels are a one-to-many broadcasting option that can be used to connect with fans and share updates. Instagram says that Channels have been popular with users and have seen steady growth.

👀 Tests spotted on Instagram this week:

  • Instagram’s CEO has confirmed that vertical grid displays is likely coming to all user profiles soon. We predict this could change how your Instagram content looks and performs as the new grid format is designed to better accommodate video content, especially Reels. While the update may seem subtle, it’s important to be aware of this change and consider how it may affect your Instagram marketing strategy.
  • Instagram is testing new profile cards with selected creators. These cards provide a QR code for easy connection and a profile overview with your image, bio, and links. While QR codes have been available on Instagram since 2018, they haven’t gained widespread use. Instagram is hoping that the new profile cards will make QR codes more accessible and popular.
  • Instagram is testing letting users share Reels with only non-followers! This feature would be perfect for promotional Reels that you don’t need your followers to see.

Glitch causing chaos for Google Ads Specialists

Google Ads has been experiencing a glitch that has caused the Audience Recommendations feature to disappear from the Insights tab. This has caused confusion among businesses who rely on this feature for automated audience targeting suggestions. Google has confirmed that the feature is not being removed and is working to resolve the issue. The temporary removal of this feature may require advertisers to adopt more manual strategies for audience targeting.

What’s new with LinkedIn?

LinkedIn Introduces In-Feed Video Carousels

LinkedIn reports that video uploads are up 34% year-over-year, explaining that video is the fastest-growing content type on the platform! Armed with this data, they’ve now launched in-feed video carousels, which showcase a series of short-form videos in a scrollable format. These videos are algorithmically matched to your interests and can be tapped to view in full-screen mode. While LinkedIn’s focus on video content follows current social media trends, some argue that short-form videos may not be the best fit for the professional networking platform. Nevertheless, LinkedIn’s experiment with video carousels is a way to capitalize on the growing popularity of video content and improve engagement on the map.

Recommendations for Businesses: If short-form video is your thing, consider repurposing your videos to LinkedIn as more engagement is expected to be seen on this format!

📔 Other noteworthy updates or tests:

  • YouTube has rolled out shareable QR codes for your channel, making it easier for people to find and follow your content. You can find your QR code in the “You” tab of the YouTube app. While QR codes haven’t been widely adopted in the past, they may be gaining popularity. It’s worth experimenting with using QR codes to promote your channel and content.
  • Spotify has launched new features for its Megaphone platform to help podcast publishers maximize their revenue. These features include contextual targeting, segment editing, and bulk editing, which make it easier for publishers to manage their ad campaigns and offer advertisers more targeted options.

We love that Meta Ads are becoming more advanced and customisable, we definitely want to try out the Promo Code Lead form to see if it’s a game-changer for conversion!
